  _**In-game St Petersburg: where to go and what to do there**_
 
_St Petersburg – in 1904 - 1905 still the capital of the Russian Empire – is mainly a symbol in the game. Each region, or city district, is first of all what people have heard and know about it. The placement of the districts doesn’t entirely correspond to the real one, their location is determined mostly by the relationships among people. All or some of the districts are separated from each other by bridges._
 
There are 9 in-game regions, or districts:

1.    **Znamenskaya square – Nevsky Prospekt**: the district of demonstrations and promenades. Buildings: merchant shops, printing offices. Residents: common people of various backgrounds, intelligentsia. Working places: printing offices and cabarets. Color: brown. Smell: stinky carriages. Writer: Fyodor Dostoevsky. Church: Znamenskaya Church. Central building: Moskovsky railway station.

2.    **Nevsky Prospekt – Palace Square – Moyka River**: the district of imperial power. Residents: tzars and nobles. Working places: government buildings and The General Staff Building. Color: navy or dark blue. Smell: expensive cigars. Writer: Pyotr Wrangel (Vrangel) Church: Saint Isaac’s cathedral (Isaakievsky Sobor). Central building: the Winter Palace.

3.    **Universitetskaya Embankment**: the district of youth festivities and Russia’s future. Residents: students, scientists, scholars, city intelligentsia. Working places: University and associated. Writer: Nikolay Chernyshevsky. Color: red. Smell: strong coffee. Church: St Martyr Tatiana Church (the patron saint of students). Central building: University.

4.    **Nevsky Prospekt and Liteyny Prospekt**: the district of gendarmes and departments, registries and chancelleries. Writer: Anton Chekhov. Color:  gendarme’s overcoat. Smell: sour stshi (cabbage soup). Church: Saint Nicholas Church. Central building: state departments.

5.    **The English Embankment**: the district of rich residents and embassies. Writer: Leo Tolstoy. Color: golden. Residents: whoever can afford living there. Smell: lilac. 6.    **Vasilyevsky Island**: the district of theaters, editor’s offices, pubs catering to middle-class. Writer: Vladislav Khodasevich. Residents: common people of various backgrounds, intelligentsia. Color: green. Smell: cheap champagne, printing ink. Church: St Andrew’s cathedral. Central building: Mariinsky Theater.

7.    **Petersburg Side**: the Morozov factory. Residents: Cossacks, proletariat, intelligentsia. Working places: factory, barracks. Color: bright yellow. Writer: Andrei Bely. Church: Transfiguration cathedral. Central building: grenadier division barracks.

8.    **Arsenalnaya Embankment**: the district of the cannon factory. Residents: middle proletariat. Color: black. Smell: gunpowder. Writer: Maxim Gorky. Church: Alexander Nevsky Cathedral of Kresty Prison. Central Building: Factory.
 

All of the above are districts and not streets; they are united by bridges and prospects.

Moreover, in thousands of miles from St Petersburg, in Manchuria, there are Russian soldiers fighting in the Russo-Japanese war. Hence, there is the region of

**Manchuria**: the Russian army headquarters and trenches. Platform for military missions. A Chinese settlement in the middle of nowhere. Residents: Russian officers and soldiers, Chinese living in a small town, journalists and spies from all around the world. Color: purple. Smell: of big lies and intrigues. Writer: -. Church: ambulatory church.
